SARAH & JEFF

It was shortly after midnight, New Year’s Day. We’d been at a party at a friend’s place. I can remember Jeff putting on his shoes by the door and pointing at me and saying, if I ever get engaged, I’m calling you up. He put his hand in the shape of a phone next to his ear and grinned and walked out the door into the cold night. Sarah had left a little while earlier through the very same door, on her own. Dave and I had met them both just once before that, a few months earlier – the same friends whose place we were at for New Year’s, well we’d been at their wedding (me photographing) and Sarah & Jeff had been in their wedding party. I remember that day when I first met them so well – I was scrambling around nervous out of my mind, too preoccupied to even talk to anyone, but I remember Jeff and his big smile. I also remember Sarah and her big smile. And I remember snapping a photo of them talking together as the main photographer was getting shots with the bride and groom. Remember thinking I wonder if they’re a couple…because if they’re not, they kinda should be. They kinda were a couple shortly after that New Year’s party and have been inseparable ever since. I got the message before they were even officially engaged and I really really can’t wait to photograph this wedding! And I believe to this day that my photograph of the two of them at our friends’ wedding a few summers ago had at least something to do with it! Photographer AND matchmaker right here.

We met up with these two at a place that held a special meaning for them to do their engagement photos – it was the place where Jeff asked Sarah to marry him just around a year after that New Year’s party where he’d somewhat jokingly said he’d get me to do photos if he ever did get married. They showed us the bridge where it officially happened and we wandered around the park under the hot sun and generally just had a blast with these two. It’s an extra special thing to be able to do photos for such good friends of ours – people we care a lot about, who have been there since I started photography and encouraged me tons along the way, and whose relationship with each other is the kind that makes you fall in love with love all over again. There’s a bit of pressure too being asked to photograph friends, but these two were just totally and completely themselves in front of the camera (which I loved!) and it’s my hope that if you don’t know Jeff and Sarah, you can tell just by looking at these images how crazy they are about each other. Sarah, Jeff, you know we love you guys but let’s just make it public. We. Love. You. End of story.
