RENEE & EVERETT

She said, I feel a little bit crazy for wanting this. But secretly I was happy about her little bit of crazy. Don’t we all need a little bit of crazy every once in a while? And so at 3:30 in the morning we got out of bed, splashed ourselves in the face with cold water for a few seconds (minutes), packed up our gear and drove through quiet streets, the moon high in the sky, to meet Renee and Everett for their engagement shoot. At sunrise. I am so unbelievable not a morning person but I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was to be shooting at a time of day I am not usually awake to witness. To say it was beautiful, gorgeous, breathtaking…..words cannot describe what we found.

I don’t know if Renee and Everett know but when Dave and I talk about them between ourselves, we refer to them as “our young ones”. We mean it in the most sincere way possible and it’s not just because of their physical age. There is just a certain youthfulness about these two – in the way they talk, laugh, look at each other… Being with them reminds me so much of us at their age – full of energy, full of ideas, twinkle in their eyes, total zest for life. You can’t spend a few hours with Renee and Everett without coming away feeling as though a little piece of your soul has been renewed. I can honestly picture this couple in fifty years, maybe a few more laugh lines around their eyes, Renee with her hair down and Everett with his pants rolled up, running down to the beach and just soaking in the beauty of the world around them like they did on this day. It was such a pleasure to capture their love of life.

We drove around one-lane roads around where Renee’s mum’s home is, pulling over unexpectedly whenever we wanted (there were a lot of these stops…every time we passed a field I was all like ooohhh…stop here! stop here! pull over!) before finally making it to our original destination at a provincial park on the coast of Lake Erie. There, we watched the sun rise behind us and stared out at blue waters. It was pretty perfect. Renee, Everett, thank you so much for waking up at 3:30 in the morning and having us take your photos. But most of all, thank you for being you. We loved capturing every moment and we can’t wait for your big day!

Enjoy some of Renee, Everett, the sunrise, and the beauty of youth…
