COLOUR & 48 HOURS IN NYC

…..if that. Maybe more like 30 hours. We drove into the city in darkness on Friday night after having driven all day from Toronto. Last time we were there was 2.5 years ago, or, in other words, a lifetime. We stood watching the New Years Eve fireworks over the skyline from the banks of the Hudson River in Hoboken, January 1 2010. It’s always been one of my favourite places in the world. Does it ever happen to you, where you come back to a place where you haven’t been for a while and it’s like you’re suddenly transported back into the shoes of that person you were the last time you were there? That happened to me as we were driving in and it sounds so cliché to say but I can’t believe where life’s taken us in that short time. We’d booked it off many months ago and told ourselves we’d do something fun and just for us this past weekend, also as a way to take time out to do a little celebrating of our six married years together. Then we found out about the Color Run in NYC was that same weekend and it was a done deal. To be honest in the week leading up to it, I was feeling a bit stressed out and I wasn’t even sure I wanted to go/could afford the time to go…. that sounds horrible but it’s true. But what I learned in the going is that it is in the most chaotic times – the times where you start almost forgetting yourself – it is then that you must do the things you think you might regret because those will always be the very things you never ever will.We didn’t venture into Manhattan once, but instead explored the little neighbourhoods of Brooklyn, good coffee, flea markets, food stalls, and just laying on a bench, my head in Dave’s lap, in a park overlooking the East River and the same skyline as that New Year's Eve a couple years back, but this time from a new perspective. Just like the colours thrown at us as we ran/danced our faces off that Saturday morning, the memories from our short few hours in New York will not soon fade…. :) xo, jennNYC captured (mostly) on the D700 and because of the slightly messy nature of the Color Run, those shots are a combination of our Instax/Holga/Phone cameras! | Brooklyn, New York, August 2012
