erica and geoff did a city hall wedding during the pandemic but realized they actually did want to celebrate too — nothing big or elaborate, just have an afternoon and evening with a small group of their family and friends. through a mutual friend they found me, and i am so glad i didn’t miss this. i’ve seen a lot over my past decade plus as a wedding photographer, but i am far from having seen it all, and this day was so out of the ordinary in the best way. they had a ceremony in the neighbourhood where they had lived for years in toronto, then we all walked over to a nearby park and patio until the karaoke bar (dine and dim) opened on gerrard st east. as a documentary photographer, i feel like i thrive in this kind of expansiveness of time and space, and it was clear from everyone’s faces that there was nowhere else anyone would’ve rather been. truly lovely to have documented this day.

ask us what we think the sweet spot is when it comes to size for weddings, and you'll hear us say between 70-90 guests -- not too many to feel like you couldn't get around to speaking with everyone, but not so few that it might feel impossible to narrow down the guest list. and from a photography perspective, with this number of guests we usually feel confident that we can capture everyone at least once over the course of the event. over the years of photographing weddings in and around toronto, here are a few of our favourite smaller venues (that sometimes don't even feel like a "wedding venue"!) that we think are perfect to host your smaller, more intimate wedding.
