sarah & pat, married at summer camp.
☾
the leaves were just starting to turn that day when we came up the driveway to camp smitty, in the ottawa valley near eganville. during the ceremony outside under the trees, little orange leaves drifted down as sarah & pat laughed, cried, and were married. a low flying float plane roared overhead just as the ceremony got underway, and i instantly thought of the part in moonrise kingdom where the mail plane interrupts bob babalan’s introduction to new penzance. their dog cedar rolled in the grass and chased chipmunks as they got ready outside next to the lake, they ordered pizza and then guests headed to the spot under the trees to sit on cozy blankets as pat and sarah were married by sarah’s best friend’s father. there were lots of happy tears, drinks and a dip in the lake, and then a bell to ring when dinner was served. the night was capped off by hilarious speeches and a dance party to remember. sarah & pat were such a pleasure to be around, giving off such infectious and inclusive energy, never taking themselves too seriously, it was a beautiful day and we couldn’t have been happier to be there to capture the magic.see the whole wedding day below!
mia & ben, and their lake rosseau wedding day in muskoka
the day started as all weddings on a lake in muskoka should, with a swim in the cool waters of lake rosseau under a brilliantly blue sky. some would call it a mikvah following the jewish tradition -- the beautiful idea of shedding the old and being reborn into the new life that comes with a marriage and the gaining of a partner for life. on this day it was also dubbed the polar bear club, although the shallow waters were a welcome relief from the blazing sun as we all (photographer included) waded in.mia and ben then got ready and met under the trees with huge smiles. they danced down the aisle with their families. they drank the final drops from a bottle of cognac first opened on the day ben was born. the lace in mia's veil was worn by her great grandmother in the early 1900s. they recorded an all important video clip to be added to the collection of video clips recorded on the momentous and mundane points along their journey together. mia's hands shook as she signed their beautiful ketubah in front of their families. ben jumped down an entire flight of stairs and a row of his most trusting (or foolish?) friends during the hora. their day was genuine and just bursting with happiness and pure celebration & being a part of it felt more like play than work.
special thanks to love by lynzie, you guys were lovely to work with on this wedding.
& of course, to mia, ben and your families for welcoming us in, we loved being there to document your joy.
